Treballs Finals de Grau de Física, Facultat de Física, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2020, Tutor: Miquel Montero TorralboThe aim of this project is to analyze the distribution of traffic accidents in Barcelona, for 10 years of data. The principal motivation is to try to see if there are some patterns in human actions, as has been demonstrated in other studies for other actions like email and letter communications. We will focus our project to approximate this behavior by Poisson process and work with some sampling like the day and night. Also, we will try to observe some human habits. We realized that the approach was quite good, however it is described with two different dynamics, day and nigh

Analysis and comparison of competitive balance in the Spanish ACB basketball league : a preliminary study

Regardless its relevance in sports economics, competitive balance has not been studied neither in Spanish nor in European professional basketball. In this preliminary study we measured the competitive balance in the Spanish ACB League from seasons 1983/1984 to 2003/2004 using the well-known winning percentage standard deviation index. Results showed great difference between seasons and a general low competitive balance index. In addition, tournament designing did not seem to affect the competitive balance in ACB

The beginning Greek world was loaded of symbolisms and mythological beliefs which managed to compile in its breast the knowledge of diverse cultures, this fact generated a change in the concepts of health-disease, generating a turn from a purely mythological magical model to a more rational, scientific and technical concept.Cuenc

Real-Time Water Demand Forecasting System through an Agent-Based Architecture

    Get PDF
Water policies have evolved enormously since the Rio Earth Summit (1992). These changes have led to the strategic importance of Water Demand Management. The aim is to provide wa-ter where and when it is required using the fewest resources. A key variable in this process is the demand forecasting. It is not sufficient to have long term forecasts, as the current context requires the continuous availability of reliable hourly predictions. This paper incorporates arti-ficial intelligence to the subject, through an agent-based system, whose basis are complex fore-casting methods (Box-Jenkins, Holt-Winters, Multi-Layer Perceptron Networks and Radial Ba-sis Function Networks). The prediction system also includes data mining, oriented to the pre and post processing of data and to the knowledge discovery, and other agents. Thereby, the system is capable of choosing at every moment the most appropriate forecast, reaching very low errors. It significantly improves the results of the different methods separatelyAyuda predoctoral Severo Ochoa. Ref BP13011

Intelligent decision support system for real-time water demand management

Environmental and demographic pressures have led to the current importance of Water Demand Management (WDM), where the concepts of efficiency and sustainability now play a key role. Water must be conveyed to where it is needed, in the right quantity, at the required pressure, and at the right time using the fewest resources. This paper shows how modern Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques can be applied on this issue from a holistic perspective. More specifically, the multi-agent methodology has been used in order to design an Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS) for real-time WDM. It determines the optimal pumping quantity from the storage reservoirs to the points-of-consumption in an hourly basis. This application integrates advanced forecasting techniques, such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), and other components within the overall aim of minimizing WDM costs. In the tests we have performed, the system achieves a large reduction in these costs. Moreover, the multi-agent environment has demonstrated to propose an appropriate framework to tackle this issue
